"A total success!" That is how multiple participants described the conclusion of the second session of the Call to Engage event. Sponsored by Points of Diversity and SERV, the two-part evening series took place on October 13 and October 20 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Roanoke. The impactful events were held under the dedicated leadership of Katie Zawacki (Points of Diversity) and Decca Knight (SERV).

The sessions brought together representatives from multiple non-profits, local community organizations, political leaders, and the general public. Attendees explored various ways to build positive, engaging dialogues rooted in respect, understanding, and care, rather than violence or harm. Participants gained a deeper understanding of how language, tone of voice, body language, empathy, and sympathy shape successful conversations—especially among individuals holding diverse and contradictory perspectives.

Moving forward, Points of Diversity and SERV will continue providing dedicated spaces to educate our community and promote participation centered on peace, tolerance, and mutual respect. Both organizations are deeply committed to our community, so stay tuned for more updates!

Points of Diversity, in partnership with Standing for Equity in the Roanoke Valley (SERV), invites you to participate in A Call to Engage Across Differences, a two-part interactive workshop designed to bridge divides in our community.

Participants will explore how core values shape personal beliefs and gain practical skills for active listening, asking thoughtful questions, and navigating complex political, cultural, and ideological differences with curiosity, empathy, and respect.
